I have a small question on bar charts: why is it that tableau creates "thick" bars when the x-axis dimension is discrete and "thin" bars when the x-axis dimension is continous? 1. time=discrete. result: thick bars. 2. time=continous. result: thin bars When I right click on a bar in the Gantt Chart, the Bars menu comes up. It seems that choosing the shape gives a thicker bar still does give a thick enough bar - ie still required to strain to look at it. Using the Bar Setting of row (choice of 1, 2, or 3) does not really separate say the baseine and remaining bar. I have created a bar chart in Power Point, but the bars are very thin with large gaps between each bar. I have right clicked on the bars and gone into the Format data series window and altered the gap width to "0", but it doesn't do anything! Please help, this is driving me mad! Gap Width is a jargony name that simply refers to the size of the spacing or gap in between the columns. Excel’s default setting is typically around 150%. Reduce the Gap Width from 150% to 30 to 50% for regular bar charts and from 150% to 5 to 15% for histograms.
