I have a beach where I pulled a lot of gold out of the water this summer and a lot of it was at the brink of detection on my CTX3030. In fact I had to drop the iron breakpoint way down into the iron range to even pick it up as non-ferrous. I believe the ATX has a ground balance feature, but I'm not very familiar with that product, the people over on the Garrett forum under metal detecting could probably better fill you in on it's strengths and weaknesses. But you're basically going to have to dig EVERY signal gold or not. And I'm not sure how hot the ATX is on small gold. The ATX is a superior water detector and I am going to use mine in California low water rivers this summer to look for gold. Mind you, I do not want this to look like I am recommending an ATX over the GPX 5000. If you have the money the GPX is the way to go. But Garrett did a great job at less than half the price. Design and Appearance of the Garrett ATX. I really like the design of the Garrett ATX. Hello All, Over the last week I have received two emails about the depth claims on the Garrett ATX and the Minelab GPX 5000. First, I would like to say these detectors are leagues apart. The Garrett ATX wasnt built to perform like a GPX. I own both detectors and also sell both detectors, which ar

I am weeding my detector collection down to the bare minimum I can get by with and the Garrett ATX is a survivor in more ways than one. I started this thread to answer questions about the detector. Please, if you see posts elsewhere on the Friendly Forums asking about the ATX direct them here. I will check here daily as long as is warranted. I want to make clear I am not a Garrett dealer and I could not care less if anyone buys an ATX. Searchcoils. The Garrett ATX has 3 searchcoils to select from, with the 10″ x 12″ DD searchcoil coming as standard. I personally haven’t used anything but the 10″ x 12″ DD, however, if you have extra money to spend, it might be worthwhile taking a closer look at what each of the other searchcoils has to offer.
