India–United States relations, also known as Indian–American relations or Indo–American relations, refers to the international relations between India and the United States. Prominent leaders of India's freedom movement had friendly relations with the United States which continued well after independence from the United Kingdom in 1947. The U.S.-India partnership has its foundation in common values, including the rule of law and democratic principles. The United States and India have shared interests in promoting global security, stability, and economic prosperity through trade, investment, and connectivity.
