FreeSync is an adaptive synchronization technology for liquid-crystal displays that support a variable refresh rate, aimed at avoiding tearing and reducing stuttering caused by misalignment with content's frame rate. FreeSync was developed by AMD and first announced in 2014 to compete against Nvidia's proprietary G-Sync. FreeSync dynamically adapts the display refresh rate to variable frame rates,

Display refresh rate refers to the number of times the screen is redrawn per second, expressed in Hertz (Hz). Typical display devices have refresh rates of 60Hz, 75Hz and higher. Higher refresh rates can reduce the amount of flicker seen on the screen. G.Refresh Rate (Hz) – Maximum amount of pixels per second the GPU can write to memory. Generalized Timing Formula (GTF) – A method of generating industry standard display timings. Display Monitor Timings (DMT) – VESA standard that lists pre-defined display timings for various resolutions and display sizes. Variable Refresh Rates. Both of these technologies are designed for using a monitor with a variable refresh rate rather than a fixed refresh rate. G-Sync is NVIDIA’s solution, while FreeSync is AMD’s. Traditionally, a PC monitor has had a fixed refresh rate, like 60Hz. The display refreshes its image 60 times per second, no matter what.

Having to use Windows display settings manager to change resolution. Advanced display settings shows the resolution but to change refresh rate i have to go to display adapter properties! It's just a longer step than it being right there one click away in CCC. Not only that but CCC is still there in Crimson if you use the advanced settings.
